What is Online Roulette?
Online roulette is an online version of the classic casino game. With roulette, you predict where the ball will land on the spinning roulette wheel. You do so by placing bets on the roulette table, whether you bet on one, two, three or four numbers. You can even bet on the likes of red or black and odd or even. Roulette is a thrilling, but simple-to-play casino game which appeals to players of all experience levels. It’s what makes it such a casino classic.
At BoyleSports Games, you’ll find online roulette games that use a Random Number Generator (RNG) to determine each spin, as well as
live casino games with real-life dealers.
How to Play Online Roulette
You bet on online roulette by placing virtual chips on areas of the roulette table (the grid of numbers and colours next to the roulette wheel). You’ll usually make either inside or outside bets.
Inside Bets
Inside bets get their name because they’re made by placing chips on the inside area of the roulette table, on the grid of numbers. You can bet on single numbers or on multiple numbers by placing chips across the numbered squares.
Inside betting options include:
| How many numbers are you betting on | | |
| | | |
| | Across two squares that are side-by-side | |
| | At the end of a row of three squares | |
| | At the corner of four squares | |
| | At the end of a row of three squares, across two end squares, covering both rows | |
Basket bet (0, 00, 1, 2, 3) - American roulette only | | At the end of the box made up of 0, 00, 1, 2, and 3, covering both of the two rows | |
Outside Bets
These are called outside bets because you place your chips on the outside areas of the roulette table. Your outside betting options include:
| How many numbers are you betting on | | |
| | On either the 1-18 or 19-36 rectangle | |
| | On either the Red or Black rectangle | |
| | On either the Odd or Even rectangle | |
| | On either the 1st 12, 2nd 12, or 3rd 12 rectangle | |
| | On either of the three 2 to 1 rectangles at the right end of the table | |
After all bets have been placed, the roulette wheel is spun and the white ball is set running in the opposite direction. As both slow down, the ball falls into a pocket. If that pocket is a number or colour you bet on, you win. How much you win will depend on how much you bet and the odds of the bet you made.
The Different Types of Roulette
It’s important to note that there are different types of roulette, with slightly different rules and table layouts.
For example, European Roulette has 37 numbers on the roulette wheel, numbered from 0 to 36. American Roulette, on the other hand, has 38 numbers and includes a double zero (00). The presence of the double zero in American Roulette increases the house edge and lowers the odds slightly.
There are also other variations, like French Roulette. This features specific rules when the ball lands on zero but is less common in
online casinos.
Types of Real Money Roulette Games
We have a variety of different types of roulette at BoyleSports Games, including:
European Roulette
This is the most popular version of roulette played in the UK and Ireland, with many of our online games following this format.
European roulette brings a traditional casino feel, with the roulette wheel numbered from 0 to 36. The roulette table then follows the same number sequence. As it only has one zero, you get more favourable odds when playing European Roulette compared to American Roulette. The house edge (the chance of the casino winning) is also lower.
American Roulette
Whilst less popular than its European counterpart, we also have online versions of American Roulette. The big difference is the presence of the double zero (00). This increases the numbers on the roulette wheel to a total of 38, compared to 37 in European Roulette. It means that the house edge is increased and the odds are less favourable to players.
Many players choose American Roulette for an extra challenge or if it’s the format they’re used to playing.
Roulette Live / Live Dealer Roulette
Live dealer roulette offers an immersive casino experience. All the action happens in real-time in a casino studio, and is streamed directly to your device in HD.
You’ll see a live dealer who takes the bets, spins the roulette wheel and keeps the game flowing. You can even chat to the dealer and the other players around the table through the Live Chat function. It’s the closest you get to playing in a real-life casino, with real roulette wheels, physical roulette balls and real dealers controlling the game.
We have a whole host of different live roulette games at BoyleSports, including Vegas Roulette Live, Cash Collect Roulette Live and Prestige Roulette. You can even play in different languages, with tables including Hindi Roulette and Roulette Italiana.
RNG Roulette (Virtual Roulette)
Instead of using a live dealer, virtual roulette is controlled using a Random Number Generator (RNG). This means that every spin of the roulette wheel is computer simulated to ensure fair and unpredictable outcomes.
These online roulette games are available 24/7 and feature fast-play roulette action, making them ideal for quick play sessions. Plus, there are so many diverse themes and games to choose from.
Mega Fire Blaze Roulette Live
Mega Fire Blaze Roulette Live adds a more nuanced twist to the familiar gameplay. It’s developed by Playtech, known for their Mega Fire Blaze mechanic which is found in many of their
online jackpot slots. It selects random numbers on the betting table that feature multipliers. Land the winning number and you’ll collect the multiplier.
Quantum Roulette Live
Quantum Roulette Live is another one that incorporates multipliers into its gameplay as well. Before every spin, random numbers are selected and assigned a multiplier for the next spin. If these numbers are landed on, it could trigger the multipliers in question.
20p Roulette
20p Roulette is a virtual roulette game that uses a random number generator to determine each spin. This game presents some nicely animated visuals and a concise layout regarding the betting options, opting to focus on the basics. And as you can guess from the title, bets start at just 20p.
Core Gameplay & Exciting Features
Each of our roulette games feature the same core gameplay. This involves betting on the roulette table and watching as the wheel spins to confirm the winning number. Your bet wins if it included that number or colour. Just remember to check if the game uses European or American rules as this will impact your potential winnings.
On top of the core gameplay, you’ll find that many of our games throw some exciting features into the mix too. This includes multipliers in the likes of Quantum Roulette Live, Cash Collect bonus features in Cash Collect Roulette Live, and fast-paced gameplay in Speed Bets Roulette. You’ll also find games based on popular slots like Roulette 9 Masks of Fire and Roulette Mega Moolah.

Key Roulette Concepts Explained
The first thing to understand in roulette is the types of bets you can make. You bet by placing your chips on the inside or outside of the roulette table.
Inside bets: These are of course on the inside of the table. Popular inside bets include a straight up bet on one number or a split bet on two numbers.
Outside bets: With chips placed on the outside of the roulette table. Popular outside bets include red or black and odd or even.
Each different type of roulette bet has different odds, determining your potential payout for a winning bet. European Roulette odds are as follows:
To take things a little further, you can make call bets in roulette. This involves betting on a section of the roulette wheel, with examples including:
Voisins du Zero (Neighbours of Zero): You bet on the numbers around zero, between and including black 22 and red 25 with the green 0 roughly in the middle.
Jeu Zero (Zero): You make a bet that covers the numbers in between and including black 15 and red 12.
Le Tiers du Cylindre (Third of the Wheel): A bet that covers one third of the wheel exactly and runs from black 33 to red 27.
Understanding Key Roulette Terminology
When playing roulette, it’s important to know the following terms:
Return to Player (RTP)
The Return to Player (RTP) percentage is the theoretical percentage a roulette game pays back to players over millions of plays. An RTP of 95.6% basically means that a game will pay out on average £95.60 for every £100 played over a prolonged period of play. It’s important to note that this is a long-term average and not a guarantee of winning from a single session.
For virtual roulette games, you’ll likely see the RTP displayed for each game. For live roulette games, it helps to look at the house edge – with the RTP effectively being the opposite of the house edge. Say you’re playing a European Roulette game. The house edge is 2.7%, which means that the RTP will be 97.3%.
Volatility
This is used to describe how often you could win and the payouts on offer. For roulette, it works like this:
Low volatility: Frequent wins, but smaller payouts. This is the case for outside bets.
High volatility: Less frequently wins, but bigger payouts. Inside bets are considered high volatility.
